Have you been tracking the polling of public opinions regarding the 2016 presidential race?  According to the most recent Fox News Poll, “Sixty-one percent of voters think Hillary Clinton is dishonest, yet she’s opened up a big lead over Donald Trump. Here’s why: majorities think Clinton is nevertheless qualified to be president, and has the temperament and knowledge to serve effectively. It’s the opposite for Trump: over half feel he is not qualified, and lacks the temperament or knowledge to lead the country. And his 62 percent dishonesty rating tops hers.” (8/3/16)

If you are like me, you are bit uneasy about the current political situation in the United States where “Dishonesty is a given; I am just trying figure out which candidate has the right temperament.”  What concerns me even more is that I hear a lot of opinions from others and inside my own heart that appear to blatantly forget about our Sovereign God, His throne, and His glory.

Here is a quote that God used this morning to sooth my mind, heart, and soul:

I am convinced that rest in this chaotic world, submission to authority, and a willingness to give and share power all arise from a certain knowledge that every single detail of our lives is under the careful administration of One of awesome glory. We will rest in the middle of unrest not because we have it figured out but because of who he is. When you are in awe of God’s glory, you just don’t have to be in control of everything and everyone in your life.” ~Paul Tripp

May I give you a few God clarities upon which to lock your heart and mind:

  1. He is always seeking the good of His people in every era of human history.
  2. He is always in control of every person and event on planet Earth.
  3. He is always going to get His glory despite the skeptics and frauds.
  4. He is always is aware of and will deal with those who abuse their power.
  5. He is always faithful to His Word and active through His Spirit.
  6. He is always-even in the darkest, dire moments-looking for people who will wholeheartedly submit to and trust in Him!
  7. He is always able to renew/reenergize His people in any circumstance or situation no matter how weak, discouraged, despairing, or clueless they may feel.

As stirring as the above quote is, here are some inspired words in Isaiah 40 from this above-it-all God that truly refresh those struggling with such a short-sighted political panic:

27 Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from the LORD, and my judgment is passed over from my God? 28 Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. 29 He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. 30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall: 31 But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Stop investing so much effort in broadcasting the ever-apparent flaws of the other side’s candidate.  Stop stretching and grasping to find a way to build up your preferred candidate.  Instead of focusing the lion’s share of your time upon how to “hold your nose” while you vote this fall, make sure that God has a firm, renewing hold upon your heart/mind through prayer in the Spirit, worship of Jesus, and meditation upon His Word.  It is only when God’s people are dwelling in this divinely-saturated environment that they will know how to vote on November 8-could this be the very reason for this convoluted election season?

What other scriptures or quotes are helping you during these politically “uncertain days”?
