We, at North Life Baptist Church, are thankful for the Dobbs versus Jackson Decision of the Supreme Court today, June 24, removing federal protection for abortion in the United States after almost 50 years.  As one author posted earlier, “63,000,000+ innocent victims have been killed legally in America since 1973. It’s the greatest human-rights crisis of our time. This is a day to rejoice! Not to strut or gloat, but to rejoice and give thanks to the Lord of life.” Our gratitude is born not out of indifference or judgmentalism towards the very real challenges facing many expectant women in our country.  It is motivated by a sincere belief that life begins at conception, is sacred, and to terminate a pregnancy at any stage/for any reason is murder in the eyes of God who sees and knows all (Je. 1:5a “Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee”).

In our careful reading of Scripture, all life distinctly has value—both the unborn child and the dear women who bear the burdens of motherhood often with little to no support.  James 1:27 clearly states, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction.”  If deep concern isn’t shown for both child AND mother who are often widowed/orphaned by irresponsible men, then James bluntly asserts that our religion is out of balance and less than true to the God who authors and accounts for every human life carefully formed in His image.

Our church is convinced that we cannot have an accurate view of this issue or any other without considering all sides honestly and thoroughly. For those who are rejoicing today as pro-lifers, we plead with you to give greater consideration to the unfortunate events/brutal relationships that typically precede troubled pregnancies and the oft-overwhelming emotional, financial burdens that persist after a full-term birth.  For those who are angry and fearful today as pro-choice advocates, please consider, with greater conviction, the willful immorality that often precedes pregnancies and the rejection of God’s clearly revealed will that terminates them.

To all who read this statement-including those who have an abortion in your past, please know that God loves you, can heal you, and you still matter to Him more than you can imagine!  We currently have several households in our church family who have adopted and others who are pursuing it and/or foster care.  Our church is increasingly involved in our local pregnancy care center and are doggedly determined, in light of today’s developments, to do far more!  If  our ministry can be of any help to you and your family in prioritizing choices that protect and advance human life, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at office@northlife.church.
