As we approach another national election, labeled by many as “the most important one in our lifetime,” I am choosing to fix my eyes, mind, and heart upon the only One who sits upon the throne of eternity. The only election to which this Great God is willingly subjected is “will He be king of my heart and vision this week?” Several men in our church, including my youngest son and me, are planning to sing again this Sunday the refreshing, recalibrating lyrics below: (On the brink of this election, would you let them steady your soul as well?)

Who has held the oceans in his hands?
Who has numbered every grain of sand?
Kings and nations tremble at his voice
All creation rises to rejoice

Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore him

Who has given counsel to the Lord?
Who can question any of his words?
Who can teach, the one who knows all things?
Who can fathom all his wondrous deeds?

Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore him

Who has felt the nails upon his hands?
Bearing all the guilt of sinful man
God eternal, humbled to the grave
Jesus, Savior, risen now to reign

Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore him

You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)
You will reign forever (let Your glory fill the Earth)

Behold our God, seated on his throne
Come, let us adore him
Behold our king, nothing can compare
Come, let us adore

Oh…how it does my heart good just to reread these lyrics again! Yes, I have prayerfully cast my vote, but more importantly I choose to worship. Will you join me? As a pastor friend of mine recently posted, “Be cautious of idols painted red, white, and blue. We are privileged to live in the USA, but more so to serve a great God. Jesus Christ deserves preeminence, not just prominence. May we live in the light of that.” Well said, my friend. Well said!
